Children & Young People >
The Wesport network is dedicated to providing opportunities for young people to get involved in sport and physical activity, not only as participants but also to support programmes as volunteers.
Over the past few years the School Competition Team at Wesport has delivered over 400 events to nearly 50,000 children helping young people to get fit, compete and interact with other young people across the West of England and beyond.
In addition, the school competition programme has provided over 1000 opportunities for young leaders to develop their skills and support other young people in sport.
The national funding for School Competition Managers ceased in March 2011 and the School Sport Partnership network saw cuts to their funding as well. From September 2011, new funding streams were put in place based around the new national programme - School Games.
The previous Sport Unlimited programme offered opportuntities for young people out of school hours and through our network of partners, hundreds of projects to thousands of young people were delivered helping to bridge the gap between formal physcial activity in schools and continued activity away from the school gates.
Again - this funding was relaunched in 2011 with the new programme 'Sportivate'
