British Cycling Give a Olympic Lecture to Students at Filton College

Students at Filton College enjoyed a special Olympic lecture from British Cycling, Friday January 6.

British Cycling Regional Development Manager, Mark Adams, visited the College and gave a presentation about the history of cycling through to the modern day as well as talking about the Great Britain Olympic Cycling team.

Local bicycle stores Giant Cycles from Bradley Stoke and Fred Baker Cycles from Cheltenham road, Bristol, supported the event providing a small exhibition of various bikes. To the students delight, Fred Baker had special speed and power test equipment. Many students faced off against friends and staff to see who could maintain the highest speed and generate the most power for one minute.

Steve Easton, 18 from Bradley Stoke, studying Sports Coaching comments:

“It has been really interesting to learn about the history of cycling. A lot of people take the success for granted but it’s been through some tough times and opposition.”

Talking about a speed test competition against a friend he said: “It’s exhausting! I don’t know how cyclists keep the pace so high for so long.”
