Job Vacancy: Somerset Cricket Development Manager

Somerset Cricket Board [SCB] offers the above position as an exciting opportunity for someone to oversee and develop all aspects of recreational cricket within this flourishing county.

It needs to be strongly emphasised from the outset that this post is of a managerial nature rather than a cricket coaching role, although ideally the successful candidate will have a reasonable background understanding of the game.

The Cricket Development Manager [ CDM] will be based at the County Ground in Taunton, and will lead an experienced team, both full time and part time, to deliver the complete range of SCB programmes. They will receive added support from numerous volunteers and key partners within the county.

To a large extent the CDM’s hours of work arise from assembling their own diary of engagements, and quite frequently these will involve club visits and a variety of meetings outside normal office hours, including the occasional weekend.

The successful candidate will be responsible for both constructing and working within SCB budgets, and be accountable for the delivery of a Medium Term Strategic Plan to meet current ECB targets and desired outcomes.

To help support our many current commitments they will need to demonstrate a willingness and ability to seek additional external funding and sponsorship within the community.

They will build and maintain effective relationships with all our traditional partners and stakeholders including clubs, schools, local community groups and local authorities, as well as liaising with ECB officers and senior SCCC personnel as required.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills as well as the ability to inspire and lead others. They should also be IT proficient and possess a full driving licence.

The CDM and his staff will oversee the administration of the Centre of Excellence’s indoor school operation, and will guide our well established Chance to Shine programme linked with local clubs.

They will be expected to maintain a good working relationship with County Sports Partnerships, Somerset Coaches Association, the Institute of Groundsmen and Somerset Association of Cricket Officials, offering advice and support to each of the latter organisations.

The salary will be not less than £32,000, with the added provision of a company car or generous car allowance, plus additional travel expenses.

In the first instance applications should be sent to Andy Curtis, the SCB Chairman, at a.r-curtis@tiscali.co.uk, when a more detailed job description will be provided.

The deadline date for all applications being received by the SCB Chairman is Monday February 6 and interviews are scheduled to be held in Taunton on Monday February 13th.
