The West of England Community Games Fund has Launched!

The West of England Sport Trust (Wesport), in partnership with Quartet Community Foundation, has today launched a fund to support communities in celebrating the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games through the Community Games programme.

Community Games provides a great opportunity for communities to come together to take part in sporting and cultural activities inspired by, and in celebration of, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is up to organisers to plan their Games in a way that works for them and celebrates the uniqueness of their community.

The West of England Community Games Fund aims to provide a small financial contribution to help support those who want to create an event that brings their community together to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The fund brings together individuals, companies, charitable trusts and statutory agencies through the Quartet Community Foundation, who want to support groups that have been inspired by the London 2012 Games. The fund will help successful applicants to make their event a reality and can be used for anything that will make their event a success.

The fund is open to small, local, voluntary and community organisations where a small amount of funding can make a big difference. Applicants must be based and working in the West of England area (Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset or South Gloucestershire).

Steve Nelson, Wesport Chief Executive said:

"It is great that with the help of the Quartet Community Foundation we are able to provide some financial help to those groups who wish to bring the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games into their community. What I love about the Community Games is that it allows us to turn the London 2012 Games from something that is happening in London into something that is happening in every street, district, village, town, community centre and workplace. With the launch of this fund today, we can help make this a reality."
