North Somerset ski slope plans are building momentum
Plans for the UK's longest indoor real snow ski slope to be built in Weston-super-Mare have been submitted to North Somerset Council.
Consultants GVA held a public exhibition earlier this month in the seaside resort on behalf of LeisureDome UK Ltd for people to have their say on its plans to build the first and exclusive indoor leisure facility at St Modwen's Locking Parklands.
The exhibition attracted many residents living in the town, who wanted to have their say on the proposals.
Jo Davis, a senior director at GVA, said:
"We've reached an exciting stage in the process – the plans have been finalised and submitted and we're looking forward to taking them to committee later in the summer.
"We had overwhelming support for the scheme at the exhibition.
"There were some perceived concerns over the level of traffic generated by the scheme on the local road network and the applications seeks to respond to this."
The £50 million extreme sport and recreational development, will, if approved, play a major role in the continued revival of Weston as an all-year-round tourist destination.
As well as a 210m indoor ski slope, the centre will also feature an indoor climbing centre with the longest climbing face in the country, a health club, children's activity zone and crèche, as well as a host of other leisure and extreme sport activities.
