Sir Chris Hoy inspiring children in School Sport Week 2011

The Bank of Scotland National School Sport Week 2011 gets under way with the emphasis on achieving a personal best.

Throughout the course of the week, over 330,000 children from 1,400 schools will take part across every region in Scotland, making it the country’s biggest school sport event.

Inspired by Bank of Scotland Ambassadors for London 2012 Sir Chris Hoy, Katherine Grainger and Jason Gardener, schools will work to demonstrate the Values of the Olympic and Paralympic Games through a range of sporting activities.

To start the week, over 700 pupils are taking part in a series of Olympic and Paralympic sport activities at Glasgow's Scotstoun Stadium. Among the highlights of the event is a Guinness World Record attempt for the most people running 100m in a one-hour relay.

Through a 'pledge your support' scheme, pupils and teachers from secondary schools that have registered for the School Sport Week are eligible for the chance to carry the Olympic Flame thought their community in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.

Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will take place between 27 June – 1 July.
