Job Vacancy: Senior Sports Development Officer - Wiltshire Council

Salary Grade K (£28,636 - £30,831)

37 hours per week, permanent

As the Senior Sports Development Officer, you will be responsible for leading and delivering the Sports Development Service across Wiltshire. With an expert knowledge of community sports development issues and principles you will take a lead role in developing and implementing the Council's Sports Development Action Plan. You will have the ability to translate key corporate policy and strategy objectives into deliverable and measureable outcomes, whilst ensuring that sport is helping to deliver against the Sport and Physical Activity Strategy and achieve Local Area Assessment outcomes (formerly NI8).

Educated to degree level in a sports related discipline, or equivalent, you will be highly motivated, have excellent communication and inter-personal skills, be able to work as part of a team and on your own initiative, be highly organised and have the ability to work under pressure ensuring key priorities and deadlines are met.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day to day supervision of three Sports Development Officers and a team of sports coaches and tutors, ensuring they are consulted, empowered, valued and motivated. You will be expected to actively lead, provide clear motivational guidance and support performance outcomes for all staff in accordance with corporate policies, vision and core values.

You will lead on the development and management of a range of innovative sports development services, which will include:

  • Partnership working with National Governing Bodies and delivery of Whole Sport Plans particularly around adult participation
  • The provision of club and coach/volunteer development
  • Direct provision of sports activities including alternative sports clubs, disability sports, after-school coaching programmes and rural summer holiday sports schemes
  • Working across service areas to support the objectives of key partners including, education, community safety and adult and children’s social care

You will also assist the Sports and Physical Activity Development Manager with the development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to the delivery of sports development services. You will have knowledge and experience of setting and managing both budgets and qualitative and quantitative performance indicators.

You will be expected to demonstrate the full range of competencies required of a team leader in a rapidly changing, performance driven environment.

You must hold a current, valid driving license and have a vehicle available for work purposes.
