Tim Hollingsworth takes reins at British Paralympic Association

Tim Hollingsworth (Team West of England Co-Chair) has today taken up his post as chief executive of the British Paralympic Association (BPA), after being appointed in May of this year.

He joins after six years at UK Sport, where he served latterly as chief operating officer, and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience of the world of high performance sport.

"Today is a big day for me but more importantly another day in what is now a crucial part of the journey to London 2012," said Hollingsworth.

"Since the announcement of my appointment, I have been delighted by the tremendous goodwill that people across the sporting landscape have shown towards not just the BPA and the ParalympicsGB team but also the development of disability sport more widely.

"There is a very strong sense that we are on the cusp of the most exciting opportunity ever for Paralympic sport in this country and I'm looking forward to playing my part in that and joining a first rate team."

Hollingsworth takes up the position after former chief executive Phil Lane resigned in February after ten years in the role.

Tim Reddish, chairman of ParalympicsGB said:

"We are confident that someone of Tim's calibre will be just what the organisation needs to deliver a superb team performance in London and make sure that we make the most of the opportunity a home Games brings, not just for the BPA but on behalf of all our members".

Hollingsworth also joins shortly before a particularly busy time for the organisation with the second major ParalympicsGB preparation camp set run from August 15 to 28 at the University of Bath.

Here 150 athletes aiming for London will have the chance one year out from the Games to prepare and train in an environment designed to simulate the experience waiting for them in London.

This is followed by the Chef de Mission Seminar from September 6-9 and International Paralympic Day on September 8.

Tickets for the London 2012 Paralympic Games will go on sale on September 9.
