BANES Chairman's Sport Awards 2012 Nominations Open

The Chairman of Bath & North East Somerset Council, Councillor Peter Edwards launched the Chairman’s Sport Awards 2012 on 3rd October 2011 alongside representatives from Gold Challenge, the official mass participation legacy programme for the London 2012 Olympics.

The awards, which are supported this year by the Council’s sports facilities manager Aquaterra Leisure, will recognise the achievements and dedication of local sports people, volunteers and coaches.

A new category for 2012 will be the Gold Challenge Award which will recognise the achievement of individuals, families and teams who have completed their own Olympic sporting challenge.

Individuals, sports clubs, schools, colleges and community groups are invited to make nominations for the Chairman’s Sport Awards 2012  in the following categories:  

  • Young Volunteer in Sport (16 and under)
  • Volunteer in Sport (17 and over)
  • Young Achiever in Sport (16 and under)
  • Achiever in Sport (17 and over)
  • Achiever in Sport (with a disability)
  • Coach
  • Sports Club
  • Teacher (PE and Sport)
  • Young Sports Leader (18 and under).

Other categories include: Healthy Lifestyles Special Achievement Award, Aquaterra Special Achievement Award and the Gold Challenge Award. The Chairman’s Special Award, recognising Achievement in the Community, will be selected from all the nominations received.

All award nominees will be invited to a civic reception and presentation on Tuesday 13 March 2012, which will include energetic displays from local sports clubs. All finalists will receive a certificate and photograph, while the winner in each category will be presented with a piece of engraved, Aqua Blue Glass and offered 12 months free Platinum membership to Aquaterra-run facilities worth £400.
