mental wellbeing benefits of open water swimming
getting activemental health

BBC Points West have featured a story today focusing on improved mental wellbeing from taking part in open water swimming. Wesport are working across the West of England advocating the positive correlation between being physically active and improved mental wellbeing.

A nationally funded pilot 'Sportivate' programme was held at Clevedon marine lake specifically targeting young people who are struggling with poor mental health. This has supported a wider programme of work in conjunction with North Somerset Council looking to encourage people of all ages to be more active to help with their mental wellbeing but also ensuring that local sports clubs are welcoming and are able to provide a supportive environment for people. Mental Health Awareness training and a small grants scheme are on offer to any local sports club wishing to get involved.

If you wish to find out more about how we can help you as an individual or you are a sports club wanting to get involved, please contact Lisa Wood at lisa.wood@wesport.org.uk
