This Girl Can

This Girl Can is a celebration of active women who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets. This campaign was developed by Sport England in order to tackle the rising gender gap between the number of men compared to women who play sport and are physically active.

The aim of the national This Girl Can campaign was to show real women playing sport and being active.

What's New?

You can now filter over 100 activities through the This Girl Can website by answering just 3 questions:

  1. How long have you got to exercise?
  2. Who do you want to exercise with - e.g. Just me, a group or with the kids!
  3. How do you want to feel afterwards - e.g. Stronger, out of breathe or energised!

The filter then finds a smaller list of activities that could suit your requirements. Stay tuned in 2020 as this feature aims to be able to signpost you to local providers that can offer you the type of exercise you are after nearby.

Community Fund

This fund aims to support women aged 16+ to get active by offering National Lottery grants to local projects that will contribute to overcoming the barriers some women face in getting active: from a lack of opportunities offered in their local area, to cost and availability of childcare.

Get Involved Locally

Bristol City Council operate a fantastic website called Bristol Girls Can - they showcase real local women and girls from the Bristol community and signpost you to activities. The website also holds a great toolkit for clubs, organisations or community groups who are aiming to encourage more women and girls to attend their activities. In the toolkit you will find support on how to effectively use your social media, imagery of real women and support for planning sessions.

Wesport are always interested to hear about your sessions and showcase local opportunities - please contact us with your good news stories, activity tips or just tell us about a session you are running!
