Creating safe, positive and inclusive environments is everyone's responsibility. That's why we're pleased to be working with the Hollie Gazzard Trust to deliver an engaging online workshop focused on Active Bystander Training in Sport.

Date: 26 October
Time: 18:00 - 19:00
Location: Online
Recording: The session will be recorded and shared with those who sign up.

What is an Active Bystander?

An active bystander is someone who recognises potentially harmful, inappropriate or concerning behaviour and chooses to take safe, positive action.

In sport, this might involve challenging inappropriate language or checking in on someone who appears uncomfortable. Or perhaps reporting concerns through the correct channels, or supporting a teammate who may be experiencing harm.

Being an active bystander doesn't mean putting yourself at risk; it's about understanding how to respond appropriately and confidently when situations arise.

By empowering individuals to act, clubs can help create cultures where respect, inclusion and safety are everyone's responsibility.

About the Training

Delivered by the Hollie Gazzard Trust, this webinar will explore the principles of active bystander intervention and provide practical tools that can be applied within sporting environments.

Participants will learn:

  • What active bystander behaviour looks like in sport.
  • How to identify situations where intervention may be needed.
  • Common barriers that prevent people from acting.
  • Safe and effective intervention techniques.
  • How active bystanders can contribute to positive, inclusive and safer sporting cultures.

The session is suitable for coaches, volunteers, welfare officers, club officials, participants and anyone involved in sport who wants to help create environments where everyone feels safe.
