Data and Insight is key to the success of getting more people active.

This page provides a comprehensive list of data and insight resources which can help the network understand the West of England and its population better. The tools include data on local demographics, physical activity levels, information on health and wellbeing and children and young people.

By having better knowledge of our local community we will be more informed, and be able to make a greater impact in the communities that need the support.

Sport England Insight tools

The Active lives survey measures sport and physical activity levels across England. There are two surveys: Active Lives Adult, which is published twice a year, and Active Lives Children and Young People, which is published annually. Head to the Sport England Active lives webpage to access the reports.

Local Area Insights tools let you view and explore key statistics for an area of your choice around numerous themes, such as population, deprivation and health.

Public Health England

Provides small area health related data via maps and reports. Including fingertips profiles, these are a rich source of indicators across a range of health and wellbeing themes that has been designed to support JSNA and commissioning to improve health and wellbeing, and reduce inequalities. 

Demographics

The website provided by the Office of National Statistics provides data on the UK labour market statistics. Data includes population, employment, unemployment, qualifications, earnings, benefit claims and businesses. 

Deprivation

Joint Strategic Needs Assessment

The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) provides a picture of the current and future health and wellbeing needs of the local population for each Unitary Authority.
