We are excited to announce, No Hate, Just Sport, a new and important multi-sport pilot is officially live.
No Hate, Just Sport is a multi-sport pilot within the City of Bristol, led by Wesport and SARI (Stand Against Racism & Inequality), which recognises the vital role sport plays in promoting physical health, mental health, and fostering community cohesion. Sport can provide a safe space and sense of belonging for those people who might be experiencing discrimination and hate in other parts of their lives. We also recognise that discrimination and hate can occur at all levels within sport itself. This undermines participation, damages lives, and creates division.
The aims of the project are to break the silence and nurture environments in sports clubs that are free from discrimination and hate, so that everyone can access the positive outcomes that sport provides.

- Youth crime in Bristol has doubled*
- 73% of all hate crime is race-related*
- Hate crime referrals are up 32%**
- Increasing numbers of residents are stating that fear of crime impacts their day-to-day lives~
"We want No Hate, Just Sport to show that no one is alone when it comes to addressing discrimination and hate in sport. From National Governing Bodies to club volunteers, and those wishing to make a report, simplicity is key. Each of these groups needs access to bespoke guidance, training and resources that make it as simple as possible to call out the discrimination and hate they see.
Sports clubs are often the heartbeat of communities — places where people feel safe, valued, and connected. We want to make sure they’re safe for everyone, everywhere. After pulling together best practices from across the industry, we hope that No Hate, Just Sport can help to provide some of that clarity."
Steve Nelson, Chief Executive Officer at Wesport.
"The launch is the culmination of over 2 years of discussions between Wesport, SARI, and other partners. We knew the sports organisations can play a huge part in stopping and responding to hate as well as offering safe spaces to diverse communities. We want this launch to be the start of a new campaign for action going forward starting with a pilot to pathfind workable solutions. If you take part in a sports club here in Bristol and want to get involved or need SARI’s support, please get in touch. The principal message, though, is clear: Hate hurts. Silence harms. Speak out."
Alex Raikes MBE DL, Chief Exec. at SARI

The landscape in Bristol might feel daunting for the volunteers, parents, and children in our sports clubs, schools and communities to address discrimination and hate that they might be seeing.
That’s why we need to help educate, support and advocate for safer spaces for all

Training and education – coming soon!
Our aim is to create advocates for change in sports clubs who can teach and guide others.
