The Falls Challenge Collaboration event

Wesport supported by BNSSG Building Healthier Communities network, brought together a conference of voluntary sector partners to explore the current challenges in the health and care system around falls and explore the role the voluntary sector can play.

The event featured presentations from Dr Charlie Kenward (Clinical Lead for Research and Effectiveness, BNSSG ICB ) about the current challenge presented by falls across the health system, Sir Muir Gray (Live Longer Better) on what Ageing Well looks like and Nicole McKeating-Jones (Active Ageing Lead at Greater Sport), to learn about the approach across Manchester in integrating the voluntary sector within the health system to make a real positive difference for people in reducing falls.

There was a positive response to meeting in-person, and as a sector it was an opportunity to build connection and trust moving forward. The overwhelming feedback from the post-event survey was to improve coordination among the voluntary sector and co-production with health system.

Presentations from the event can be found on the Wesport website here.

UPDATE 21/4/23

VCSE Falls Collaborative: update and next steps meeting on 27 March 2023

Building on the successful Falls Collaborative event in January and acknowledging the discussions which took place at the ’Update and Next Steps’ meeting in March we have been busy progressing actions to bring together an approach.

A presentation of the ’Update and Next Steps’ meeting held on 27 March can be found here.

At a locality level, we’ve been taking a steer from colleagues across the voluntary and health sector and we would like to share an updated structure of the approach. This version considers comments on building a stronger VCSE voice and making best use of time by adding the Falls Collaborative as a standing agenda item onto existing meetings (where applicable).

Reflecting on VCSE capacity, we propose regular communication to keep you updated on progress, maintain transparency, and enable timely 2-way communication. This will be through a monthly newsletter. If you would like to join this mailing or the VCSE organisation and/or statutory providers network meetings, you are invited to use the following link to sign up here.
